Research Blog #3

The research Sion Papi Productions has done in the City College Dominican Studies Institute Archives and Library has brought many new ideas that could help Sion Papi's "To Whom It May Concern". Such new evidence that helps others understand numbers as they relate to how and why things are the way they are. The research made there was definitely useful not just to the team but to the ones who will view the final work of the film "To Whom It May Concern". 
The following numbers are from the Multicultural America , edited by Ronald H. Bayor which state that:

• The five largest Hispanic/Latino Population in the United States was in 2000 and 2007

The highest amount of immigrants admitted from the Dominican Republic was during 1990-1999 with about 359,818 immigrants.  

The research done in the Dominican Studies Institute Archives and Library was very helpful to help us relate everything. It made it easy for us to understand what  we were exactly looking for once we started reading and looking through pictures and statistics.

Research Blog #1

In the past couple of months production team Sion Papi has been working hard on getting footage to present to the viewers their perspectives about everything immigration. From how immigration affects families, separating them to how immigration policies continue to let others out of the rights to an education because people aren't  able to obtain a piece of paper say that saying they have the rights to live int he country.

Somethings that they have been exploring throughout these months has been the different organizations that are for obtaining immigration rights and organizations that continue helping the youth and families stay together and obtain the education they deserve. Sion Papi has worked and kept contact with organizations such as MakeTheRoadNY, and TheDoor, having kept in contact with the organizations mentioned has given us opportunities to keep our research going and keep obtaining new information for the viewers.

After obtaining all the footage from the interviews and the b-rolls and creating soundtracks, Sion Papi has come so far. They will soon begin to organize all the information and edit as soon as possible. Sion Papi will continue working hard till they have finished their film and feel like they have gotten through to their many viewers.

Research Blog #2

This past Monday (3/19/2012) Sion Papi Productions had an interview with Sarah Aponte the librarian for the Dominican studies institute in City College. We had a short interview in which we asked questions about the history of the Dominican Republic and the very first migrants. We found new information that we didn't really know about since that day. After the interview we did some research in the library. We found two very interesting books, Multicultural American edited by Ronald H. Bayor and a thesis statement by Nelly E. Marte Ph.D in May of 2008 called "The Experience of Early Parental Separation Due to Piecemeal Immigration To The United States among Dominicans from New York University School Of Social Work" both books have had very interesting facts to help our film "To Whom It May Concern" flourish.

This has been a great investment of time as we have found such great pieces of evidence to help support our film and help get great examples that can contribute to making a great film. While we were in City College we found many statistics that can be put in the film. Statistics that show that Latinos are the five largest populations in the US in 2000 and 2007, US Born Dominicans vs Dominican Immigrants in the US 2000 and 2007, Top counties with Dominican concentration 2000 and 2007.

The research we have been doing has began to hep us with organizing the ideas for the film and how exactly they should be arranged to show the viewers what we want them to see.

To Whom It May Concern a film by Sion Papi deals with immigration and the burden it brings to families and friends. This film will explore the life of one of my peers as she deals with immigration policies and how they have separated her from her father. This film is meant to inspire others into knowing they aren't alone but to understand that some are in similar situations.

We hope that To Whom It May Concern inspires you as much as it inspired us, all the footage we got over the past month will definitely be put together in such a way that the message being sent wont be avoided.
